'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Sale

Wolverhampton Wanderers pursuit of striker Aaron McLean appears to be heading into a dead end.

Following Peterborough anager Darren Ferguson's comments yesterday, Posh Director of football Barry Fry has added his two penneth.

Wolves have made two bids which were instantly disregarded. They are miles below what we would consider a proper fee for a player with Aaron's goal-scoring ratio.

'They have been persistent in their attempts to sign Aaron, but I did tell them last week that they were wasting their time. We are not a selling club.' Fry said in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

An understandable stance to be taking given McLean's strike record and the possibility of an even bigger payday for the club should he continue his constant improvement.

So what would Barry consider to be a fair fee?

In todays market, it would be more than double the £1m bid Wolves are said to have tabled already. POssiby even double that.

Which is an awful lot of money for a player as yet untested in League One, let alone Championship and above.

He's also a 1 season wonder at the moment - Needs to prove himself against next season in a higher level to worth the kind of money that Fry thinks he's worth. Not being funny but Championship youth players scored goals for fun in Div 2 last year (Watford's Robinson at Hereford for 1) but they ain't worth £1m on their showings.

Peterborough are a club with money at their disposal and a chairman who wants to see them progress to the highest level. They are no longer in need of cash so will not sell players unless they feel they are getting top whack for him.
