McLean Too Pricey Shocker

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has put everyone out of their misery and confirmed thatWolves pursuit of Aaron McLean is over.

He is widely reported as saying

"The deal is dead as far as I`m concerned. Wolves made two bids and they would have gone higher, but I spoke with Mick McCarthy and told him they couldn`t afford Aaron.'

Sorry Darren? 'couldn`t afford Aaron' ?

In the real world he would have said ' we intentionally priced Aaron out of the market.'.

But this is transfer window world where frequently all ryhme and reason go out of the window.

Peterborough's valuation of McLean is a cool million more than Roma paid Liverpool for John Arne Riise, more than twice what Rangers paid Derby for Kenny Miller, and 300k more than Spurs have paid Barca for Giovani Dos Santos.

'Couldn't afford it' doesn't come into it.

Not prepared to get fleeced certainly does.

I'm interested to see how Peterborough do next season. I mean they have two very high profile players in Aaron McLean and Joe Lewis - the former a current England international. If they can hold onto those players, and their manager, sign a few more promising youngsters, there is no reason why they cannot get successive promotions.
