Fred move on

The long drawn out saga of Freddy Eastwood's move away from Molineux finally looks to be close to completion with Mick McCarthy withdrawing Eastwood from the travelling squad for the Wrexham friendly.

'Freddy won`t play a part on Saturday at all. As far as I`m aware, he`s going to Coventry.

'Chris Coleman was on Sky TV this morning saying he wants to sign him, so I`m not speaking out of turn.

'It would be madness of me to take him to Wrexham and play him for 45 minutes, for him to get kicked and pick up an injury.

'If he`s leaving anyway and I`m not going to play him, then I might as well not take him.

'I might as well take someone who is going to be involved.' McCarthy said on Thursday.

Finally!!!!

The Cult of Fred has loomed large over Molineux since his arrival and has also been responsible for more than a handfull of fans turning on Mick McCarthy.

The terraces have frequently rung out with his name and the player took on almost iconic status amongst some sections of the fans to the extent that other players endured boos when selected ahead of him, despite no one outside of the dressing room knowing the true facts behind his absences from the starting lineup.

I can't think of a single player who has managed to garner the kind of loyalty Freddy has in the short timeframe of his Wolves career short stay.

True, he had a huge impact scoring four quick fire goals early in the season.

And admittedly, his chances after that were limited to cameos, but you'd think he had performed some kind of David Fairclough heroics when he came on listening to some fans opinions of him.

I'm genuinely sad for the player that it hasn't worked out, but to elevate him to near legendary status on the back of four goals against what has to be said was poor opposition seems a little over the top.

If he goes on to out score Sylvan Ebanks_Blake next seasom I'll happily eat my words, but at present I think we just have to accept, that for whatever reason, he didn't fit, his presence has been disruptive, and the club will be better off without him.
