Elokobi Happy To Be A Centre-Half

Mick McCarthy has experimented during pre-season by playing left-back George Elokobi as a centre-back and the 22-year-old is more than happy with this: 'It will definitely take me a couple of games to get into my stride there,' Elokobi told the official website. 'I'm happy to play wherever the manager wants me to, and I will do a job for both myself and the team.'

McCarthy is still looking for a central defender, and had admitted an interest in Bobo Balde but at the same time conceded defeat in being able to sign him due to his wage demands, so Elokobi could become a new signing from within?

Elokobi is happy to carry on developing as a centre-back, and with McCarthy's guidance he feels he can, he added: 'It's another string to the bow to have two positions and not necessarily to be classed just as a left back.

'Of course he [McCarthy] was a centre half himself and we're going to have a chat about the game and he'll tell me what I did right and what I did wrong.'

What do you think about George Elokobi playing as a centre-back? Do you think this could become a permanent position for him, or will it just be a stopgap in case of emergencies?

Well never really played centre-back when at Colchester, but will give his all wherever he plays.
