Thatcher on trial

Mick McCarthy has mad his most contravertial transfer move yet, by taking badboy Ben Thatcher on trial.

Thatcher played 70 minutes of a behind closed doors friendly with Bolton today, helping a young Wolves side earn a 1-1 draw aginst a strong visiting side.

Thatchers trial is dividing Wolves fans already.

For all the wrong reasons.

THatcher could well turn out to be a good addition to the side, but it's not his foootball skills that are in question.

The polite term is temperament. The accurate description of the concerns are incidents of unforgivable pre meditated violence that sent shockwaves throughout the game nd led to calls for a lifeban for not-so-gentle Ben.

Thatcher may, of course, not earn a contract, but if he does, he will have one hell of a job to win over his detractors amongst the Molineux faithful.

But first, he has to prove his worth to Mick McCarthy when Paul Ince's Blackburn Rovers come to town on Saturday afternoon.

The bloke's a complete thug (and not a great defender at that). Ditch him to the lower leagues where he belongs.
