'If It's Football, It's Vital'

One day to go

They say time flies when you're having fun, and the closed season has been no exception.

Thanks to Steve McLaren there was no Euro stress this year and thanks to some nifty transfer activity at Wolves there was no worrying about what was happening behind closed doors.

And thanks to someone else there was a beautiful week in Menorca.

The pre season has gone well for a change, and not just the results. The curse of every Wolves squad, the injury list has been kept thankfully free, even Sparky looks back down to his fighting weight, and on the evidence of what I saw against Blackburn, the team looks sharp, hungry, and ready to launch a real assault on Premiership status.

There are those still scoffing at Mick McCarthy's assertion he now has genuine strength in depth, but there are more than a couple of sides would like to be able to pick a bench from Chris Iwelumo, Dave Jones, Matt Jarvis, Carl Ikeme, Sam Vokes, Michael Gray, Mark Davies and Mark Little.

This is the season McCarthy has been building up to.

If the expectation of success is once more building outside the walls of Molineux, it's raging inside.

From a team in tatters, he has assembled a squad of winners, all of them desperate to achieve what only one Wolves side has ever done, nad what only two of the current crop of players have done.

Young and hungry has become a phrase derided at times, but that is exactly what Wolves are.

Maybe some people still belief that you'll never win anything with kids?

My glass is usually half full when it comes to the start of the season, but this year it's a bit fuller than usuall.

Blind faith?

With top rated players in every departmant I'm not so sure.

Let's see what the opinions are on Saturday come quarter to five.
