Captain out till October?

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is sweating on Jody Craddock's test results after he limped out of Saturdays 4-1 win against Wednesday early in the first half.

Jody felt something click in his foot and clearly couldn't carry on,' McCarthy told the club's official site, adding.

He's got to have an X-ray and a scan to see if there's any soft tissue damage so we might as well do both of those on Monday.'

The fear is that he may have broken a metatarsal bone, which would sideline him until October at least, leaving McCarthy perilously short at the heart of defence.

With all of McCarthy's previous targets being priced out of the market, he now finds himself backed into a corner, with limited options.

Continue with Neill Collins as cover, knowing his every move will be scrutinised, and mistakes picked apart vocally as they were last season.

He could look to arrange a short term loan, possibly from a Premiership side.

Or he could seek extra funds to secure one of his previous targets, Jez Moxey being forced to enter negotiations with his hand already on show.

What McCarthy has to do, is ensure that whoever he brings in, if anyone, has one thing money can't buy.

Experience.

Either way, McCarthy faces a decision that could make or break Wolves season almost before it has begun.

Out for 3 months - better sign Beevers from Sheffield Wednesday - or back in for Berra - why not both? 5 million is the price we should pay for 2 quality centre backs... The prize for top flight football is ten times that!
