Appeal fails

Appeal fails

Wolves hitman Chris Iwelumo has lost his appeal against last Saturdays red card and must now face a 3 match ban.

The FA in their wisdom chose to ignore the evidence of Sean St Ledger, whose kick aimed at Iwelumo's chest caused the handbags in the first place and upheld referee Martin Atkinson's decision to dismiss the big Scot.

Had Iwelumo not reacted as he did, St Ledger may well have been the player taking the walk of shame, but that's neither here nor there.

The sad fact is Iwelumo will now miss three key fixture, first the visits of Bristol City and Reading and then the trip to Swansea.

With Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes in fine form things aren't as bad as they migh have been, but anyone thinking Iwelumo's enforced lay off isn't a serious loss is kidding themselves.

It looked bad on the television replay so if the FA have gone on video evidence, it is no surprise that they rejected the appeal.
