International break - for some

The news that Mick McCarthy feels Wayne Hennessey is jaded after 18 months of solid football should surprise no one.

Although it's bound to scoffed at by some.

There is a feeling in some quarters that highly paid pro football players should be able to cope with both club and country fixtures, after all, that's what they're paid for, or so the argument goes.

True, they're handsomely rewarded for their efforts, but money is no substitute for rest, which all athletes require to stay in peak condition.

With a growing number of Wolves players making their mark at International level it's a genuine cause for concern.

Michael Kightly, Kevin Foley, Richard Stearman, Hennessey, SEB, Andy Keogh, Sam Vokes, Darren Potter, Neill Collins, Dave Edards, Carlos Edwards, Stephen Ward and Chris Iwelumo is a large chunk of the current first team squad have Internatiopnal credentials that will take them far and wide over the coming months, with bi-annual International tournaments giving few chances for rest and re couperation durng each summer.

The players themselves won't be heard moaning about being given the chance to pit themselves against some of the finest players in Europe and The World, but as is the case with Wayne Hennessey, success in International football can sometimes come with a cost that only the the club is left to pay.
