'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pair miss out

Manager Mick McCarthy and flying winger Michael Kightly have both been pipped at the last post for Championship Manager and Player of the Month for September.

Kightly lost out to Reading goal machine Kevin Doyle, and McCarthy to Burnley's Owen Coyle.

Given the poisoned chalice nature of the monthly awards, I'm sure neither will lose any sleep, although another bauble for the mantlepiece is always nice.

Awards early season are great, but it's the one that awaits the top two sides in the division that both would treasure the most
