New Year Resolution

2008 was an interesting year.

For three quarters of it Mick McCarthy was a man under intense pressure, with frequent calls for his head, mostly doubts over his ability, and vociferously expressed fears that the club had stopped moving forward and had little to look forward to in '09 other than mid table obscurity.

But here we are, 7 points clear at the top of the table, almost twice as many goals scored as last January with the team marked as the ones to beat by every other side in the Championship.

So what changed?

In truth, very little.

But what did happen was the realisation of a three year plan, achieved in part by the Boards' patience, but mostly because both the man in charge and his players had faith that they were doing the right things, and if they continued, then their time would surely come.

Is that time now?

If the side can maintain it's momentum, then history says that it is, with only two Championship sides having gone into a new year top of the table having failed to gain promotion.

There's still a long way to go and a mammoth 57 points still to play for, but it would take a brave man to bet his house against Wolves maintaining their current upward momentum.
