'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Midfield mutterings

As usual, yet another transfer ripple is starting to turn into a wave, this time regarding a possible Wolves interest in Charlton midfield dynamo Darren Ambrose.

Ambrose has only just returned from a loan spell at his former club Ipswich, which prompted manager Jim Magilton to say

"We have not seen the best of Darren,"

"His loan move did not work out as both he and ourselves had hoped for."

It's widely believed that the prime reason for the loan was the financial plight of The Addicks, which would make any offer around the £300k mark a huge tempter for the London side.

But that would not be without an element of risk.

The 24 year old is another one of the games under achievers.

Several high profile managers have shown a lot of faith in signing him that has never truly been repaid on the pitch.

Although last years disapointed at least can be put down to a hip injury he carried all season which was corrected in the summer with surgery.

Mick McCarthy has a track record with a certain kind of player and Ambrose would be joining an ambitious squad whose attitude others have found highly infectious.

And his versatility could well come in handy over the course of the next few months.

But is now really the time for gambles?

With the stakes never having been higher, it would be a brave man that answered yes.
