December's PFA Fans' Player Of The Month

December`s winners announced for PFA Fans` Player of the Month Award

The winners of the PFA Fans' Player of the Month Awards* for December have been announced…

Premier League

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool

Championship

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - Wolverhampton

League One

Neil Harris - Millwall

League Two

Luke O`Brien - Bradford

It`s been an eventful week or so for Steven Gerrard - in more ways than one - but he can take both comfort and pride from the fact he has been named the PFA Fans` Player of the Month for December.

Liverpool`s 5-1 victory at Newcastle on December 28 ensured the Reds went into the New Year as Premier League leaders and Gerrard, who was on target twice against the Magpies, continues to have a major influence on the side.

Gerrard reckons this season represents Liverpool`s best chance of claiming the league title since the club last won it in 1990. "We have big players here and we will have a lot of tests and challenges to come,' said the inspirational captain. 'But if we keep playing like this then we will be there.'

He added: "This is the best team I have played in. You look around the dressing room and, from the keeper to the forwards, we have some fantastic players. There is a confidence that we can get over the big hurdles.'

The PFA fans` player of the month in the Championship also comes from the team setting the pace at the top of the table - Sylvan Ebanks-Blake of Wolves.

Mick McCarthy`s men lost just one game in December, a month during which Ebanks-Blake was on target three times as Wolves created a seven-point gap at the summit.

That`s 14 goals for the season for Sylvan who is just one ahead of the club`s second leading scorer Chris Iwelumo; just two of Wolves` stars who are being linked with moves in the transfer window. Not if Mick McCarthy has his way, however.

Fans` favourite in League One for December is Neil Harris of Millwall who are sitting pretty in third place at the moment whilst, in League Two, the player of the month award goes to Bradford`s Luke O`Brien who has been instrumental in the Bantams` own push for promotion.

Voting for the first month of the year closes at midnight on January 31. Fans can vote for their favourite players at Click Here

Every month of the football season, four fans who have voted for the divisional winners get the chance to present the PFA Fans` Player of the Month Award to their football hero on the pitch at a home game. One of the yearly fan winners will be invited to the prestigious PFA Player of the Year Awards dinner.

The awards are endorsed by the players and supported by the Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two clubs and The Fans Supporters Federation. The PFA's commitment to this award confirms the organisation's belief that fans, as well as players, are the lifeblood of the game.
