'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Just what we need?

Wolves have raided West Ham for the second time this month to bring midfielder Nigel Quashie in on loan until the end of the season.

'I'm delighted to be here,' he told the clubs official site, adding 'Wolves have got some very good young players and if I can help them out between now and the end of the season then great.'

Quashie brings a wealth of experience with him, at this level and above, and is the type of seasoned pro that McCarthy and fans alike have often talked about getting in with the hope of the same kind of impact Ince and Irwin made during their stay with the club.

But that hasn't stopped some the usual grumblings of disatisfaction with McCarthy's latest signing.

A disapointing spell at Blues did nothing to sway his detractors who are forgeting that the former Scotland International was returning from a 15 month lay off.

Or that Newcastle were one of a number of clubs running the rule over him before Wanderers swooped.

Ask them and they'll tell you there is a reason Birmingham didn't extend his stay, and theyre right.

He was an emergency loan, and his stay couldn't be extended beyond it's 93 days under FA rules.

But don't let a little fact like that get in the way of some good old fashioned before-he's-kicked-a-ball sniping.

That just wouldn't be Wolves now, would it?

Time will tell what he'll bring to the party, with the only given at the moment being he is the only fit player at the club who has been here before, when he gained promotion with Portsmouth.

And that in itself may prove to be invaluable in the heady months to come.
