Berra be worth it

Wolves CEO Jez Moxey looks set to continue his pursuit of Hearts centre back Christophe Berra, with the price now reportedly rising to a possible £3 million.

An awful lot of money for a player outside of the EPL with only three International caps to his name.

So is he worth it?

When we initially mad e a bid for him last Summer several Hearts fans contacted us to say not. At a then price of £1.5 million, far less than his now quoted value.

With the clamour for a skillful defender at the heart of defence rising to deafening volumes, and comparisons to Michael Mancienne sure to ensue, he would need to be one hell of a player to justify his supposed price-tag.

Gordon Strachan has recently commented on Berra, saying Wolves would definitely be getting their moneysworth, which begs the question, why haven't either of The Old Firm sides considered him good enough for their line ups?

It's thought that the player prefers a move south of the border, but since when has that stopped Celtic and Rangers at least putting in a bid?

If Berra does complete his move to Molineux, he will more than likely move straight into the starting 11 at a crucial point in the season, with Wolves desperate for a win to kick start their promotion campaign.

No place for the feint hearted, and no place to be finding your feet at Championship level.

It will be a long weekend waiting to find out.

Neither Celtic nor Rangers can afford him. Simple as. Whether Wolves can afford him or not is another matter yet to be determined. I see Sunderland are reportedly interested too. As to whether you'd be getting your money's worth - £3M is cheap. Excellent reader of the game (will only get better), is good in the air and on the ground. He's grown into the captain's role incredibly well the past 8 months or so since Craig Gordon left us. Passing is not his strong suit however. But he'll be worth £8M in two years if he keeps progressing as he has done the past few seasons. That said, I don't think Wolves will tempt him. If he goes, it will be to an established mid-table Premiership club. Just my opinion of course. :)

Thanks for the inout StockportJambo. Opinion on Berra's ability and potential seem to be split.
