ASTON VILLA have told Wolves that they will not be selling any of their central defenders, following Martin Laursen`s retirement. According to the Daily Mail.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy contacted his Aston Villa counterpart Martin O`Neill directly according to the paper and the believed target was defender Zat Knight.

Knight moved to Aston Villa from Fulham 2 years ago in a £3.5 million deal. He has made around 40 league appearances for the club.

Vital Wolves Comment: If Villa had been willing to talk, Knight could have been a good summer target. Some Premier League experience in defence will be needed, if we are to become harder to beat.

Why doesn't Mick pick up the phone and talk to Mark Hughes about Michael Ball? Plenty of Premiership experience and ready to rock and roll.
