Wolves not interested in mercenaries

Wolves have been offered the chance to sign former England World Cup stars Sol Campbell and Nicky Butt, among others, while Butt`s Newcastle team-mate Kevin Nolan is another who has been linked with a move to Molinuex - Express & Star

WOLVES are not interested in mercenaries. End of.

"We don`t want the sort of mercenary type and we all know who they are - they have a season or two here and a season or two there.' Wolves chairman Steve Morgan said to the Express & Star.

"They`ve had more clubs than I`ve had hot dinners. We don`t want that type of player - we want the players who want to come to play for Wolverhampton Wanderers and they will definitely blend into the rest of the team and become one of us."

The Express & Star have linked Morgan's comments to a couple of rumours that have recently gone around Molineux.

Namely Portsmouth's Sol Campbell, Newcastle's Nicky Butt and Kevin Nolan. Which seems odd as Morgan can't eat too many hot dinners when Campbell hasn't switched clubs for 3 years and has only played for 3 clubs during his career.

Nicky Butt is the same, three career clubs and has been at Newcastle for five years.

Kevin Nolan two clubs, only moving from Bolton to Newcastle last season after 10 years at the Reebok.

Vital Wolves Comment: Can't argue with any of Morgan's comments, even if the Express & Stars link is slightly skew-whiff!

I'm glad I read the whole article as I about to have a rant about the three players in question but noticed that you actually defended them yourself Akela. I think your chairman is right that your don't want mercenaries but your local paper needs to wake up a little as those three mentioned are exactly the type of player which bags of Premiership experience that might see you through your first season.. The premiership is a tough league and Campbell Nolan and Butt will give their all I'm sure of it. I can only talk of Campbell specifically as as a Pompey fan I see him week in and week out and although shaky at times he is still one of the best heads in the Prem.. (need somebody fast next to him though ;) Good luck for the forthcoming season and get that paper of yours to wake up to a bit of reality .. I'd take all three of them if I were you

ooops, almost did the same thing chix almost did. phew. that would have been embarising. Campbell has seen out all his contracts, so is probably the least "mercinary" type player you can get. Or maybe the most, in that he knows how to get higher wages... which, in a sense, nicky butt has done quite well at too... Anyway, personally, I would be pleased if we could keep campbell another year... so that should suggest to you, that he would be worth having... if that makes sense?
