WOLVES have lost out on signing 18-year-old James McCarthy as the Scottish midfielder has chosen to join Wigan.

'James is a superb prospect and I know Roberto Martinez and Wigan will look after him.' Hamilton Accies chairman Ronnie MacDonald told BBC Scotland.

Vital Wolves Comment: No real immediate loss. It was clear that McCarthy could be a signing for the future and so would not of helped in our immediate plans to survive in the Premier League.

I always love the word, SNUB, in any comment, perhaps he simply preferred the idea of playing regular football. He was a player lonked with Spurs via the media, but it seems that we are more interested in fabian Dalph at Leeds that McCarthy (rightly or wrongly). A move to wigan seems good for him, with no desrespect to any other club in for him. will be interesting to see how scotlands,, "brightest" prospect does in the south.

I reckon James McCarthy's head was turned by the chance to be involved with the first team at wigan when in fact he will be a bench warmer either that or he hadn't got the stomach to fight for his place like he would have had to at the Wolves, still his loss - only time will tell. If he is has good has they say he is - why (reportadly) did Celtic only rate him at £200.000? either way I feel we have better players in our Academy. johnwolf.

I have to agree with johnwolf. Zele Ismail and Nathanial Mendez-Laing should be given a chance with the first team. however i am alittle worried that we havent signed enough quality

No big loss. While I admire Mick McCarthy's efforts to continue to buy young and build for the future. Right now we need a team to survive in the Premier League and to do that we need at least a couple more signings.
Wolf Man
He would only have been used as a late sub and cup game player etc..... There's more instant oppourtunity for him at Wigan in terms of first team football.
