Vital Wolves: Kightly will not be rushed

Mick McCarthy has revealed Michael Kightly is not expected to be ready to start the new season - Official Website

WOLVES gaffer Mick McCarthy has told the press that Michael Kightly will not be fit for the opening day of the Premier League season against West Ham.

Kightly returned to action this week, but being ready for a gentle run out in a pointless pre-season game is a bit different to being ready to face West Ham.

'If he's not at full tilt there's no chance he can play, certainly not coming into the Premier League.' McCarthy told WOW.

'Sometimes if he came back last season at 75-80 per cent he could play and be o-k but there's no chance he's going to do that and we really need to get him fully fit.

'The first game of the season was possibly a bit ambitious so maybe we need to take that goal away and just let him get fit.'

Vital Wolves Comment: While we all want to be at our best for the start of the season, there is no point bringing him back early just to aggravate the injury.
