'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Defeat to Portsmouth - The Assessment

7 defeats on the trot and turmoil at the club, ingredients that should have led to 3 points for Wolves.

Instead a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a goal from Hassan Yebda on loan from Benfica.

The result hits us hard I`m afraid, there is no glossing over this defeat and IrishWolf certainly wasn't on our message board after the game: Its going to between us and Birmingham for last place at the end of the season. I now think unless we sign well in January we will be straight back down.

While he then went on to add: We are just clearly not good enough for this league. Look at the signings this summer, how many started today, but more worryingly, how many of them are good enough.???

While Vital Wolves Moderator OldGold struggled to argue responding with: Am beginning to think your pessimism may not be misplaced Irish. Some of our football is nice, but we are not clinical enough upfront. Big money for a quality partner for Doyle come Jan ...if anyone will come to us by then, as I have my suspicions that SEB will not cut the mustard. Would be happy to be proved wrong.

So how did McCarthy see it?

'We are coming off with a defeat because we didn't defend properly. We were not outplayed, we just didn't do the basics properly.' Mick told the BBC.

McCarthy wouldn't be drawn on the penalty claim and instead added: 'If we hadn't conceded it would be 0-0 and then I would be able to discuss the decisions that didn't go our way.

'I know Paul Hart well, but I'm not happy for him. I can't be. I wanted to heap more misery on him today. Sympathy is in short supply here.'

Vital Wolves Comment: I'm going to do my best to avoid making predictions for the remainder of the season as I am clearly a jinx!
