Hoddle Eyeing A Bargain? Or A Crock?

Rumours are circulating that Glenn Hoddle may be ready to offer a contract to Saints midfielder Matt Oakley.

The 28 year old’s deal at St Mary’s will expire in the summer, making him an ideal target for Hoddle, who will be looking to strengthen his squad on a shoestring budget.

The fact that Oakley took a massive pay cut upon Southampton’s relegation also plays in the Wolves manager’s favour.

On the down side, there are still question marks over the midfielder’s fitness, having undergone cruciate knee surgery two years ago, and having been out of action since February this year with an ankle problem.

But ss Wolves fans know only too well, suspect health issues has never stood in the way of the black country club when faced with a bargain.

And sometimes even when they are not.

Injury crock, decent player when fit. You lot are after Lee Cook too apparently, classy left winger. I'd hate to see him leave, have you got the money to spend...?

We cant afford a fit player, and we certainly cant afford a casualty case

oakly never really achieved his potential, should have played at a higher level

Its a big gamble to take, but i suppose if you get him for nothing and he comes on a paid as you play basis then you've not a lot to lose have you. We did that when we first signed Fuller from Wigan.
