The Vital Wolves Mauling: Aston Villa

With the Premier League now under way, Vital Wolves will be bringing you a new feature we have entitled The Vital Wolves Mauling.

Basically it's 10 questions with an editor from the Vital website of our next opponents (clever huh?)

So this week it's Young_Jonah from Vital Aston Villa.

1. What do you make of Wolves, how do you think they have faired back in the Premier League?

Not too badly to be fair, McCarthy may not want to admit it but he has a lot to prove after his abysmal Premier League record with Sunderland. So far he is doing a decent job, Wolves have a pretty young side with very few experienced players, so I am intrigued as to how well they will do this season.

2. Which Wolves player would you like in your team?

If I had to take one it would be Michael Mancienne, I think he is an exciting prospect, but to be fair Central Defence is one of our strongest areas at present, so possibly Michael Kightly to offer competition for Milner`s place or Marcus Hahnemann just so we can have 3 American keepers!!

3. Ultimately do you think Wolves will avoid the drop?

Its hard to call it this season, especially after seeing Newcastle go down last term, no club is too big to avoid the drop. Obviously as a Villa fan it would be nice to see both Wolves and the Blues go down, but I would kind of also like all 4 of us in the Premiership for at least one season (if WBA could bounce back), show the rest of the country just how strong football is in the West Midlands! I think that the battle for relegation is going to be fierce this season and if Doyle can recapture the form he enjoyed in Reading`s first season in the Premiership then Wolves might just manage it.

4. What are your thoughts on how your season has gone so far?

I was a Season Ticket holder last year, but did not renew. I have been quite vocal in my negative view of Martin O`Neill, but I am just starting to enjoy this season. We have had some good results, and despite losing a couple of games that we should perhaps have won it has been an exciting start to the season, results wise. Richard Dunne and James Collins so far seem superb signings and Gabby Agbonlahor is in fine form.

5. What do you think will happen in your game against Wolves?

A sending off is surely on the cards (no pun intended) other than that anything could happen. I think like the Blues game, Villa will just manage a win after a hard fought performance from a side that will be up for it. But as I say anything could happen, maybe we will see lots of goals; maybe we`ll have a boring goalless draw. But I reckon 1-0 either way is the most likely result.

6. Where will your side be come the end of the season?

I predicted 7th at the start of the campaign and I am going to stick with that. I think not playing in the Europa League this season will certainly help keep players from getting tired, plus I think we have a bigger squad than last season so I think 4th could be ours IF we have plenty of luck come our way, but 5th-7th is more likely. I would also like to see us win the League Cup or even more so the FA Cup.

7. Will you be happy with that?

I would be happy with 7th (only if we reach a cup final though!), anything less than 6th would be a disappointing season in my eyes. We want year on year improvement, so I reckon even though 5th is probably our aim, 6th would be satisfactory. But over the course of the season a club`s situation can change, if we buy a top player in January then I might feel differently about our chances likewise if we lost someone to injury.

8. Who will win the Premier League?

I can`t see anyone other than Man Utd winning it this season, Ronaldo may have gone but they still possess quality players, I expect Wayne Rooney to step up this season and score more than he usually does, and I reckon Owen will weigh in with a few from the bench. I also like Valencia, I realise he isn`t as good as Ronaldo but he will do a decent job for them.

Chelsea will probably come 2nd and Arsenal are likely to be up there, Liverpool don`t seem to have got going yet and that might mean someone will break the top4, I would love it to be Villa, but I cannot see it unless we get some luck go our way.

9. Who will go down?

As I said earlier, it`s really not that easy to predict, but if I am being made to pick 3 then I would go with Hull and Pompey, and Wolves too, but I wouldn`t be too surprised to see an established side go down again much like Newcastle last season, possibly West Ham or Bolton.

10. Final thoughts?

Just to say - may the best team win, and I wish Wolves the best of luck for the rest of the season, would rather see the Blues go down than your boys!!

Thanks again to Young_Jonah for taking the time and effort to respond to our questions!
