Doyle's World Cup dream ends?

Kevin Doyle's Republic of Ireland lost their World Cup play-off home leg to France last night.

Nicolas Anelka scored the winning goal and gives France a slender lead going into the second leg.

But with Ireland needing at least a goal in Paris next time out, Doyle's World Cup chances have taken a big knock.

'We always knew we'd have to score there to win the game and now we go there needing a goal and if not two, then one to get into extra time and then we'll see what happens.' Doyle told Wolves Official Website.

In the Wales-Scotland friendly Dave Edwards had a much better time as he got on the scoreboard.

Wayne Hennessey enjoyed an international clean sheet, while Sam Vokes played the second half of the game which finished 3-0.

Nenad Milijaš also got 45 minutes under his belt as Serbia beat against Northern Ireland 1-0.

Vital Wolves Comment: Ireland needed to take an advantage to Paris to have any hope of getting through to the World Cup Finals in South Africa, so with a 1-0 defeat, I think their dream is all but over.
