'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Beckham is my hero

Wolves man Halford has admitted that England midfielder David Beckham is his footballing hero.

During this international break, England took a trip out to the Middle East to face Brazil.

As ever England were hit with withdrawals from the side, which led to an almost second string team being fielded.

David Beckham was also absent as his MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy were beating Houston to win the Western Conference Cup and continue forward to the MLS Cup Final.

And his on the field exploits and his off the field persona has led for Halford to name him as his hero.

"I don`t exactly model my game on him but my hero always has been and still is David Beckham.' Halford told the Sunday Mercury.

He went on to add: ''Inside and outside of football he is someone you can look up to. He puts himself in the right position in everything and is not only a real professional on the field, but also in the way he conducts himself off it.

'He handles the press and all the publicity so well, even though he has not always had it so easy."

Talking about his sending off at the 1998 World Cup, Halford added: "When you think that he was in disgrace then and facing death threats and everything, it is amazing that he has managed to get back to playing at the highest level and has won the fans over again,"

Despite his form since returning from a loan spell at AC Milan he has failed to be named in the MLS All-Star team.

Vital Wolves Comment: With Fabio Capello, slowly whittling his side down for the trip to South Africa, should Beckham be in his squad?
