Beckford latest

Are Newcastle about to step a side in the battle for Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford?

Beckford handed in a transfer request following Leeds famous win over Manchester United and it was thought he favoured a move to Championship side Newcastle.

But Newcastle United reportedly are unwilling to go above their recent £1.5million offer.

That could pave the way for Wolves to step in as Leeds are believed to want a fee of closer to £2million for the 26-year-old striker who is out of contract in the summer.

Vital Wolves Comment: A bit of a risk spending this amount of money on a striker who is playing in League One.

But a risk worth taking considering his potential, as he showed against Manchester United in the FA Cup!

waste of money he is a unproven striker who plays league one football i ask why has he not been linked with any big clubs if he is suppost to be a premeir league striker i feel that this is a waste when we could spend the money on proven players

I am a Leeds supporter and while the guy is not everybodys favourite with his moody character he is a natural goalscorer and if given chance he will stick plenty in the net, left, right, long or short and good with his head as ell. For £1.5m he is a steal.

Not a waste but not good value above £1.5 m for a player who will be free in May, and is realistically Championship quality. Leeds have had numerous strikers rated as Championship but unable to prove worthy of the starting job or able to match Beckfords goal production e.g. Sam Vokes, Lee Trundal, Liam Dickenson, Tres Kandol- Beckford came to Leeds when they were championship, its taken 3 years for him to develop & he's done well but League 1 level. sure he scored the wonder goal v scum but in 5 play games, & 3 league cup games had not scored, has missed penalties so the goals have not been there in the bigger games? its too big of a jump League 1 to Premiership, Fabian Delph is a seasoned England youngester, great at Leeds but cannot impact as Villa as he needs time. Beckford is now 26 thats late to step up 2 more levels? not impossible but tall order?

If you want him you'll have to tempt S G and Uncle Ken with a bid we wouldn't refuse

Don't think a new striker is the key. Two new quality attacking midfielders and Doyle upfront with either Vokes or Big Chris, and Keogh when fit.
