Last chance for Ebanks-Blake?

Last chance for Ebanks-Blake?

Could it really be Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's last chance to make an impact in the Premier League?

I really thought that Ebanks-Blake would make the step up to the Premier League a lot easier than he has.

I thought once he bagged one, his second, third and fourth would soon follow.

I still think that could be the case, but will we get the chance to find out?

McCarthy is reportedly interested in signing Leeds striker Beckford and that has now added pressure on Ebanks-Blake to find the net and fast.

'I wouldn`t say the Wigan match is the last chance for Ebanks-Blake to make a goalscoring impact, but it certainly might help ease the pressure.' Wolves legend Steve Bull wrote in his Express & Star column.

Since Ebanks-Blake's goals fired us to glory in the Championship, he has struggled this season in the Premier League and despite buying Stefan Maierhofer and holding on to former striking favourites Chris Iwelumo, Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes, McCarthy is still looking for new faces as the current crop have struggled to make the step up with record transfer signing Kevin Doyle the only striker to have shown Premier League class this season.

But despite proven Championship goal scorers failing to prove themselves in the Premier League, Wolves survival hopes could be set to be pinned on an unproven League One striker.

Bull added: 'All the present talk about Beckford is an interesting conversation. I`ve heard people wondering what on earth we`re doing looking at a player from League One, as others saw his performance at Manchester United on TV and think he might be the answer to all our prayers.

'My feeling is that if you can score goals, you can score goals. Sure, the pace of play and quality of defending improves as you rise up the divisions, but if your entire life revolves around your name being on the scoresheet every Saturday, as mine did, then you can always find a way of hitting the net. I think he`d be a great buy.'

Vital Wolves Comment: So Beckford is a proven scorer due to his goals in League One and Ebanks-Blake was a proven scorer due to his goals in the Championship.

Will Beckford prove to be the answer?

Given time would Ebanks-Blake be the answer?

No idea, I`ve forgotten the question.

Sylvan WILL come good! It may take time (Unfortuantely we do not have time at the moment) - But as for other options, there are none. Unless we go out and buy a proven goalscorer (Dean Ashton would have had my vote any day! - He's the type we need). Concentrate on staying up and go for Kevin Davies next year!

Strikers cost the most money and command the biggest wages for a reason- Good ones are hard to find. I think Beckford is a huge gamble, there's nothing to say he will make the transition better than Ebanks-Blake. SEB is still as good a player as he was last season but the chances are fewer and harder at this level. Had he not had the injury early on I think he would have been on his way to double figures by now. He and Doyle certainly make defences work with their energy and movement. The problem seems to me that they are both moving a little too much rather than one of them always getting in the box.

Good article akela! So many unanswered questions, but I get your point. If we were being linked with Ebanks-Blake of last season I`d be far more excited about signing him than I would of Beckford. Doesn't mean Beckford wont be the man, but its potential, just like Ebanks-Blake unfortunately still is.

will he, wont he... it doesnt matter... we need a strike partner for Doyle NOW !!! Forget if Doyle gets injured, we are STILL NOT SCORING ENOUGH GOALS.

SEB doesn't run and looks disinterested, I think we have to think about his mental state as much as physical, but he certainly does not look like a prem striker to me.
