Vital Wolves: Defeat to Wigan - The Verdict

Wolves fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Wigan on Saturday.

It was a game of what-if's in the end as Wolves did have a chance to take the game to Wigan, when Nenad Milijas set up Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, but the out of sorts striker missed the chance to score the opener.

Then for some odd reason with the ball going out of play Richard Stearman pulled James McCarthy shirt in the area.

'I've got no problems with the sending off - it was not the most sane thing I've seen from Richard Stearman.' Mick McCarthy said following the game.

The penalty however was saved and Wolves continued to stay in the game, despite being pretty much out played by Wigan.

But then referee Howard Webb thought he would join Wigan's quest for a goal and blocked David Jones during the build up to James McCarthy's opening goal.

'The referee put a block in on David Jones which impeded him for the goal.' McCarthy told the BBC.

He added: 'When [Hahnemann] made the save, I would have liked one of my players to have the chance to get the rebound rather than be blocked by the ref.'

Charles N'Zogbia then wrapped up the game with 20 minutes remaining.

Vital Wolves Comment: Overall Wigan deserved the three points despite the bad luck Wolves were served during the game.
