McCarthy struggles

McCarthy struggles

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is having no luck during this years January sales.

Our attempts to sign Hull City winger Stephen Hunt have failed.

Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford this week withdrew his transfer request, before reportedly signing a pre-contract agreement with Everton.

Aston Villa`s Craig Gardner looks set for a switch to Birmingham.

Stoke City have denied that they have been approached by Wolves for striker James Beattie.

"I would expect Mick to ring me if they were interested, and he hasn`t," Stoke boss Tony Pulis told the Express & Star.

He added: "I think people are going to throw names into the hat all of the time at this time of year because of the January transfer window."

We know Mick is actively looking for attacking options, with a winger and a striker believed to be the main aims.

But so far, he appears to be struggling.

Akela, it is Wolves and not McCarthy that always struggle to bring in players - It has been going on for years! It has just been announced that we have signed a Belgian international on loan. Personally I have never heard of him and that seems to be the kind of player Wolves chase these days - players no one has heard of - because established players for just don't see Wolves as a club where they can ply their trade! The big question for me and I know many, many other Wolves fans would like to know to is - Why can't Wolves attract 'top' players to the club? Every other team seems to do it, Bolton, Hull, Wigan and now Birmingham... but Wolves? Every transfer window Wolves identify you they want but the fans have never heard of the players who actually come in. Who had actually heard of Milijas, Zubar etc? You have to go back a long time to when Wolves were in a position to attract 'top' players to the club and that was when John Barnwell was manager and all we have signed since those days have been journeymen, other teams cast-offs, injury-prone or one final payday players, that is until McCarthy was installed and now the emphasis has changed to youth. Unfortunately the youth policy was not introduced early enough as we gained promotion to the Premier League sooner than expected where experience is required but we have very little of that hence we are struggling to stay up. Hopefully McCarthy & co will put matters right before February 1st otherwise the season's end is going to be a nailbiter!

I think the glaringly obvious reason it all comes down to is CASH. Wolves are not prepared to SPEND ANY. Whilst Wigan, Stoke, Birmingham, POrtsmouth, West Ham, heck, the ENTIRE FOOTBALLING WORLD know that you need to splash a bit to bring in quality (that is why they cost a bit - cos they are good) Wolves instead are only interested in accumulating wealth for the fat suits in the boardroom... WE ARE GOING NOWHERE WITH THESE GLUTTONS IN CHARGE.
