McCarthy off to the World Cup

Well at least there will be one Irishman in South Africa this summer!

(Apologies to any Irish readers who are still not yet over the disgraceful actions of French cheat Henry.)

Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy will be in South Africa this summer. The former Republic of Ireland defender and manager will be working for the BBC this summer.

'I'm doing some work for the BBC in the summer at the World Cup. I've done it before and I enjoy my work. It's good doing co-commentary.' McCarthy told the Sunday Mercury.

McCarthy though might as well take a look at players during the summer, but he isn't convinced it is the best environment to do any serious scouting.

He added: 'I'm sure there will be plenty of managers, scouts and coaches watching players at the World Cup. But I'm not convinced it's the best place to view them. They might have great World Cups - and yet play differently for their countries than they do for their clubs.'
