'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McCarthy sits back to let it sink in

While most of us sat glued to the TV watching how Burnley would get on against Liverpool, McCarthy stuck to his word and avoided the game like the plague.

Mick went for a bike ride instead, but he didn't need to worry, Burnley rolled over like they have done ever since Coyle left and that was enough to secure Premier League football at Molinuex for another season.

'It`s just nice to let it all sink in and know we`re going to be back in the Premier League next season. The players deserve it.' McCarthy told the Express & Star.

He added: "The players deserve it. It`s always a big achievement for any team going into the Premier League, but surviving that first season means there`s a chance to build and try to continue to improve.

"It`s been an all-round team effort from start to finish. It`s extremely difficult for a promoted team and in our case we had very few players who had top flight experience.'

Vital Wolves Comment: It is a fantastic achievement to have survived in the Premier League.

Over the past few weeks we may have taken it for granted but it didn't always look that way!

It was only two months ago we asked on our frontpage poll: Do you think the squad we have will be enough to survive in the Premier League?

The result was close, but 56% said no and 44% said Yes.

Certainly shows how far we came over the last third of the season!
