McCarthy wants Jones to stay

McCarthy wants midfielder David Jones to stay at Wolves.

We reported on Monday that Jones was a wanted man with a trio of clubs chasing him.

Blackburn, Bolton and Newcastle all want Jones, but unfortunately for them. So does Mick McCarthy!

'Dave Bowman told me about it on Sunday because I didn't read a paper so he gave me all the gossip.' McCarthy told Wolves Official Website.

He added: 'He's got a year left on his contract and it's the same as where we were in March - we're trying to sort something out.

'Hopefully that will get done. I think it will be sorted out fairly quickly.

'We love having him and we want him to stay and be part of the squad.'

I still remain unconvinced that he is good enough for a regular place in our team next season. However we have to make sure he signs a new contract or we will get nothing for him if he leaves on a Bosman.

I think that it would be a HUGE mistake to let Jones go! He's the only creative player that we have currently have in central midfield (unless Milijas gets over his "difficult" first season blues) and, along with Jarvis, was instrumental to the wins against Spurs and West Ham. To offload him at this time to one of our bottom-half-of-table rivals would be suicidal!
