Wolves see off Walsall with ease

Wolves see off Walsall with ease

Mick put out a second string side to start with but we won with ease.

Hemmings put us ahead early on, heading in Greg Halford's cross. It was Sam Vokes who grabbed the next goal, scoring from left back Scott Malone's cross. Vokes then scored a second on the brink of half time. He beat the keeper to a soft back pass, rounded him and put it away.

We started with Ikeme in goal, a defence of Stearman, Batth, Elokobi and Malone, a midfield of Halford, Foley, Edwards and Hemmings and we started with Vokes and Ebanks-Blake up front. Wolves completely changed their side shortly after Wolves got their fourth, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scoring in style.

On came McCarey in goal. Dunleavy, Craddock, Berra and Van Damme were brought on in defence. Winnall, Henry, Jones and Jarvis made up the new look midfield with Doyle and Fletcher pairing up front.

Doyle could have had at least two. Jones' shot rebounded to him but keeper Brain made a smart (get it?) save. He then had a shot deflected out and another shot which he drove wide.

A good performance by the boys, we dominated most of the game and our keepers were rarely called into action.

It's nice to see us score a few goals, as we haven't seen that for a while. It builds confidence and creates even more excitement among the fans.

He's a striker ODDJOB, but was used last night as a winger. Sam Winnall came on and played right wing even though he's primarily a forward too.

Thought he was , Friendlies are the way to try things though so nice to see McCarthy using the kids in Different roles , My mate was there and said the kid Batth looks like he could be a star in the future as could Malone

Nice to see the kids being given a chance period right folks. Mick has been given stick over the past 18 months in particular for some reason for not giving the kids a chance- funny that the average age of our promotion winning team was what, 24? (Correct me if I am wrong). I like the way he has ruled out most loan considerations for the young players with the plan to let them gel together as a side- everything I tell you seems to be geared correctly for the future. I repeat, I cannot remember this club being in better hands throughout my years. To change the subject, highlight of the night (aside from the lad Hemmings marking his performance with a cracking goal) was SEB's goal- a throw back. Friendly or no friendly the defender was breathing down his neck but he showed the strength and guile to muscle his way through and nearly put a hole in the net. With Vokes getting a couple things are looking very rosy. Couldn't have asked for a better start to the pre season really. They always say it is not about the results but you can't beat a winning mentality. I love this site :) The negativity on the Express & Star was driving me like Herbie- round the bend.
