Mancienne still a target

Wolves have not yet given up on agreeing a deal to take Michael Mancienne from Chelsea.

If Mancienne does return to Molineux this season it would be the third season he has been part of our squad. Which of course might prove pivotal if we are to get him, as surely he probably feels more at home amongst the Wolves squad than he does with his Chelsea teammates?

But while Michael Mancienne may well want to join us on a permanent switch, Chelsea are yet to agree a fee for the England under-21 international.

Wolves have been fairly open with our evaluation of around £4million, but Chelsea (because their skint these days) want more.

The negotiations though can continue for a while longer, as the Express & Star believe we have to sell before we can buy anyway.

The paper also believes that it isn't a case of either signing Guirane N`Daw on loan or buying Michael Mancienne and that Mick McCarthy may well want to bring both players to the club.

But the shape of McCarthy's squad isn't likely to take its full shape until after the close of the summer transfer window as Mick looks to do some late wheeling and dealing.

Just pay £5million for him. He is easily worth that and chances are you will make a tidy proffit on him in the future. I would rather he played for you lot and progressed rather than sat in the reserves of my club. The boy has a good future ahead of him and if he is to fulfill his potential he needs to stay at Wolves. And besides what else can you get for £5million these days. He is a future England player without a doubt. Once he bulks up which he will as he is only a kid he will be a great player.

Can't agree more, good player at the moment and potential to be great with experience and he isn't going to get his first team opportunities at Chelsea. According to press etc we've got to sell first, but I'd be happier at £4m than £5m crespo21.

If you can get him at £4mill you will be laughing but i dont think we will let him go that cheap to be honest. We are paying that sort of figure for youngsters with potential and Mancienne has already shown he can cut it in the PL. I would have thought there are a few other clubs sniffing round him as well as he is in reach of the newly promoted sides as well as a few championship clubs. 4 or 5 million has the potential to be very good value for money.

Hats off to Crespo for his honesty and genuine interest in the player being given the opportunity to fulfill his potential. Anyone who doubts this player hasn't seen enough of him. He has played for England at every level so far. There are two outcomes here- one, he rots in the reserves, number two, at Wolves he may well be a busy fella as it will be another difficult season regardless, and I believe he can truly shine. Competition is going to be greater than I can ever remember at the club, but I believe that once this guy gets in the side, you won't shift him. He is a tremendous player at such tender years and I have no doubt with Fab Cap promising to chop out the old wood, and start blooding the youth, I see Michael cementing a place in the England team within three years. If we are saying 4 and they are saying 5, pay the 5 million tomorrow. He would be worth twice that next summer alone. As such a young talent, he fits the bill perfectly for us. I wish Chelsea would pull their finger out and make a decision. If the fee is the sticking point then we should turn over the 5million tomorrow.
