Fletcher ready to live up to transfer fee

Will the reported £6.5million transfer fee act as a hinderence for Steven Fletcher?

Or will it help to spur him on?

Well if pre-season is anything to go by, the 23-year-old is ready to live up to the hype and even improve on his impressive season last time out with Burnley.

"I don`t want to put pressure on myself. If I beat last year`s total it will be a good achievement," Fletcher said to the Birmingham Mail.

He added: "I think 12 goals is a realistic aim but I am going to take each day as it comes and hopefully just get in the team to start with. That`s a battle in itself."

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Fletcher will be receiving much of a battle from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who according to reports looks destined to not live up to expectations again.

But with Fletcher targeting 12+ goals and Stephen Hunt pushing Kevin Doyle to hit double figures this season, things sound good for a club who only managed 32 Premier League goals last season.

If Sylvan Ebanks-Blake could turn it around, then we really would begin to look a threat going forward.

Vital Wolves Comment: Fletcher scored 12 times for Burnley last season, can he beat that this season?

If Fletch plays as well for us as he did for Burnley last year, he should better his tally of last year with ease as he should be getting vastly better service. Forget SEB - great championship player but I just don't see him as being more than a bit part player again this year, especially if Doyler and Fletch do start banging them in early.

I am with Ian - I cant see SEB getting much of a look in.

Still think SEB's got something to prove, even if it will be as an impact sub. Got to get the service right to whoever is up front though

I think Fletcher from Porridge will hammer his 12 for the season and then some. I think this forward line, with supply from the likes of Jarvis, Kites, Hunt and so on, can be the best we have seen in a very long time. How many did Doyle get last season, 9? I think he and Fletch can get 30 between them this season- sounds like an extremely bold statement considering our collective output last season but compared to 'all ends simply to meet survival' in our first season- I think we are about to see a very different beast this season. Look at the squad, everyone from the aforementioned through Milijias, Edwards, Jones- even the likes of Zubar and Ward all enjoy getting forward and are all more than capable of chipping in with something special themselves. We have spend big on quality, and done it quickly. I think the signings point toward very attacking intent.

I would love to see Ebanks-Blake turn it all around. Last season I tipped him for 20 odd goals, but just cannot see it happening. He needs a loan spell to regain his form and confidence, but we just cannot afford to let him go.

I hope you are right although I still think we will have a struggle on our hands to avoid relegation. I expect us to stay up but I cant see us improving on last years place - still that will be good enough.

Astraltrader do you ever say anything positive lol , Zubar and trust me when i say Mouyokolo will be solid as a rock on the right side , Van Damme is the big IF for me , But he is AWSOME off set pieces , Craddock should miss out but I would be happy with 20 goals partnership from fletcher n Doyle , Midfield need to chip in with more and fancy them to do so , I think the MASSIVE plus for us is promoted teams and teams around us have not signed real quality so far so instead of them edging away our signings are edging us closer , We will be challeng

Challenging with Wigan , Bolton , Stoke , West Ham , Blues , Fulham and Blackburn , aswell as the promoted teams , You look at those sides and its not impossible for us to be better than all of them and if thats the case 10th-11th is realistic if we perform to our abilitys !!!
