28 into 25 doesn't go

The Premier League introduce a new 25-man-squad rule at the end of this month.

That means that Mick McCarthy has to trim down his squad by three by the deadline or risk upsetting a few players.

"It will be interesting managing some players if we`ve got 28 come August 31 and I tell three of them they can`t play," McCarthy said to the Express & Star.

He added: "That will be a test of all our management skills. I think I`ll have less problems than they`ll have at Eastlands."

The new squad rules mean that every club must name eight home-grown players in their squad of 25.

A home-grown player is determined by whether or not they have been registered in England or Wales for three consecutive seasons before they turn 21. Nationality is not a factor.

Players who are under the age of 21 before January 1st 2011 do not have to be named in the squad to be able to play.
