'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Jez Slams Sovereign City

Chief Executive Jez Moxey slammed Manchester City over the weekend for threatening to 'distort football' with their out of control spending.

The financial string puller told the Express & Star that 'The Manchester City situation is not good for football in the Premier League.'

He went on to add that 'Not only are they contributing in a big way towards spiralling wages and unrealistic demands elsewhere, but there is a risk that they could garner all of the talent.

It`s becoming so difficult for anyone else to compete both on a competitive and talent level but also on a financial level.

And they`re only able to do it because they`ve got sovereign wealth behind them.'

On transfer fees and wages, City have unloaded close to 500 million over the course of just two years, despite finishes of tenth and fifth which Moxey was keen to point out.

Moxey at no point suggested regulating, and it would be difficult to do so considering we were the third biggest spenders over the summer. Then again, there is a slight difference between 18 million and 125 million. My bets are on City struggling to beat the position they finished last season, and when the investors get bored, the club is most likely to be left with a wage bill in excess of 10 million per month.

For City, today may be a good day, but two, three years down the line they may not even exist.

Totally agree. The Premier League is not known as the greed league for nothing....

What a stupid and ill informed article. Firstly Moxley, like everyone else, fails to answer one simple question that has a simple answer. What would they do if their team suddendly finds itself with the wealth City have? The owners have a 10 year plan and are executing that with 1bn of investment in the infrastructure and the local community. They will be around long after Moxley and Morgan have given up hope at Wolves. City have brought in 5 new players and Milner will arrive this week . All these signings are better players than those signed by Hughes so how you can say City will finish no higher is beyond belief. Overall it is sheer jealously by all those City critics.

City fan by any chance? I would wager a larger amount of money that City will finish no higher than they did last season. As for the "stupid and ill informed article" the proof is in the pudding. Count the pennies. City are throwing the shillings around like it is no ones business. As for this 'Moxley' fellow- what club is he involved with? Sounds like a lovely fellow. Probably smart with the money too. We could do with someone like him at The Wolves.

Leeds United spring to mind?

As for point number three. Take a look at how much money Madrid have spent over the last ten years and compare it to the trophy cabinet. It's gonna take tiiiiime, and a whole lot of spending money, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it right.

As for point number three- lets stack the millions Madrid have spent over the past decade and lean it against the trophy cabinet. It would fall over pretty quickly. We are all allowed an opinion my friend and mine is that Manchester City will finish 5th at best.

I am a third generation City fan and have never been happier since our glory days under Mercer. Money can buy results, the scum and chelski have been doing it for years. Well now its our time in the petro dollar sun, and we will win the prem, if not this season then next for sure, because we have Super Mario.

LOL johnkelv I will u abt super mario after 6 months then we will see
kishaloy_nag_blue
As I said sheer jealousy. City will win the Premiership and Wolves we be relegated - no question.

Moxey sounds more like Moxey off Auf Wiedersehen Pet. Why has it become fashionable to slaughter City because of what has happended to them. The Stretford were buying players at 25-30million a good few years ago and not always successfully (Veron springs to mind). Chelsea have done similar in terms of money spent. If city buys a Premier League player (Milner) then the wealth cascades down through the divisions. What contribution does Wolves make with its Bosmans and Frees? Answer Zilcho. So in the end who is responsbile for Clubs going skint? Can't be City. It must be the Randy Lerners of this world who acxcept the loot and then don't spend it!

I would like to see a team to break the so called " top 4 " but is Toure used to such pace in football and is he better than Essien/Fletcher/Mascherano , Hmmmm nope and he earns 200k a week lol , Is Silva better than Bellamy ??? , Sorry and i hate Bellamy but on his day he is an unplayable player , I think the only positions you look strong in is at the back and in goal , Kompany is a class act as is Joe Hart , I just think you have spent Millions n Millions and on paper yes just paper your way behind Man united and Chelsea , Spurs have a settled Team/squad and it showed , you were lucky not to be 5 down at half time , 300 million in 2 seasons , Is that not worrying to you City fans ??? , Your Midfield was non excistant , And im sorry but if my club had sppent 300 million in 2 years i would be very annoyed with fans saying " We will win it next season not this " , Does that mean you need to spend another 130 million next season too ???????????

Oh and yes Chelsea bought Success to a degree , But Man United started there success Ill agree buy spending a few quid on the likes of Schmiecal , Irwin , Cantona , Pallister etc but when they needed to rebuild they did it with the likes of Beckham , Giggs , Scholes , Neville brothers etc , Remember the alan hansen quote you wont win nothing with kids , So season after season when they have spent they had the formula of a winning team where they could add the odd world class player to there ranks knowing he would fit in or " have time to settle " , You dont have that luxury , Oh and im a Wolves fan by the way , I really hope you end up as Leeds did because what your doing is just wrong , The way Toure played saturday and knowing he earns 200k a week , I would be livid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ODDJOB79
ODDJOB79 The difference between City and Leeds is City have NO debt. So you've seen Yaya play in one game and have made your mind up he is usless. Well I have news for you he is one of the best midfielders in Europe, not that you would recognise one. Oh and I'll ask the question again. If Wolves suddenly came in to money like City what would you do with it and what would be your expectations? Of course, you would keep it in the bank, keep signing Bosmans and keep with Mick to try and avoid relegation every season. Pigs might fly.

Hanboy, treat yourself to a cup of tea old boy and take deep breaths. I shall return to this stream with excitement later- but for now this chap must toddle off to work. Before I leave for the day, my point for those to ponder is that, without such significant wealth, Wolves have not relied on free transfer signings and Bosman's- we were the third biggest spenders of the summer. Thoughts on a post card- the usual address. And let's keep the debate healthy and respectful :) All such opinions welcome and greatly encouraged!

The Leeds point was i hope you languish in the lower leagues in the future , Nothing to do with debt , Just that the owners bail out and your left on your backsides !!!! , Look forward to seeing you finish 5th again and 3rd is the best you can hope for if Liverpool and Arsenal and Spurs dont have good seasons !!! , Your team played like no one knew each other saturday and that doesn't click overnight !!!!!
