Nothing to prove for Ebanks-Blake

I remember getting a little ahead of myself around this time last year in regards to Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

I was confident he would score around 20 goals last season and despite having to wait till October for that first goal to come, I remained faithful to SEB.

But as we all know, his second goal didn't come until late April and that was where he finished a disappointing season.

But Ebanks-Blake doesn't think he has anything to prove.

"It`s not what I`ve got to prove. It`s about what we as a group have got to prove to the Premier League - that we can play at this level, stay here and consolidate," he said to the Express & Star.

He added: "That`s all that matters. What I do, what anyone else does, is irrelevant as long as the team gain from it.'

With the addition of record signing Steven Fletcher for around £7million, SEB's future looked in doubt.

But he enjoyed a good pre season and with Doyle's injury for the opening game and Fletcher missing the Everton game, SEB has started the season in the starting line up and scored the equaliser in the draw with Everton.

He concluded: "The gaffer picks the team and I leave that decision solely to him. I want to stay in the team and work hard. We`ve got good competition in my position and throughout the whole squad. For me personally, I just want to stay fit and help contribute to another season in the Premier League.'

I think this season is going to be his watershed,he could go on and become a supreme goalscorer and yes even play for England!!there's not an awful lot of quality english strikers out there?.If Andy Carrol can score 3 yesterday and start the calls for an england start then why not Seb?.Or the other story,a repeat of last year which none of us want.

I think you may be getting a little carried away their

I hate to pour cold water over the joy but i think Blakey has a lot to do this season to make up for the last. He put himself in the right place the right time on Saturday but otherwise there was nothing from him. I keep saying this but have we really spent 13 million on Doyle & Fletch to watch one of them sat on the bench. Blakey fired us to promotion but he has a lot to prove this season and despite his impact, if the aforementioned are fit I think he will sink to the bench. I like his attitude but I can't see him being used as more than an impact player from the bench, let alone playing for England.

This week-end will show what we are to do for most of this season, will he play Doyle and Fletcher up front or may he play all three!Seb and Doyle up front and Fletcher playing wide.Concerning the England question about Seb I dont think its that impossible, anyone scoring a decent amount of goals has a chance this season, wer'e not exactly bursting at the seams with strikers at the moment. All the decent ones are foreign!!.

i honestly dont blame seb for his bad season last year. As we all know strikers thrive on confidence non more so than sylvan. When he broke his duck last season with that penalty he was rewarded the next game by being dropped by mick. What sort of message does that send out? Now his confidence is on a high i think we can expect more from him. Having scored the goal that insured our survival last term and being hoisted onto fans shoulders like a hero can only help and having a great pre season, now getting on the score sheet second game of the season. If he has a run in the team instead of being dropped because he didnt cost as much we may all be surprised at what he does this year........

I totally agree with NYC Wolf. Just because he scores an easy side footed goal in a game where he otherwise did very liitle he is now being mentioned as a possible future England striker!! The truth of the matter is in a team where only one striker will often start then he will not replace either Doyle or Fletcher - unless we suffer from serious injury problems. SEB will be a useful squad player backing up our two main strikers but I cannot see anything other than that role for him this season.

And once again I agree Doyle n Fletch would be my starting Duo , But Seb played well against Stoke and Scored this game so hes giving MM something to think about which is always good , And saying he did not do much against Everton is Harsh , The Midfield was Abissmal for an hour and a Striker is only as good as the service he gets !!!!! , As soon as we started to Attack Blake Scored , Argument Ended !!
