'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Why Marcus Bent?

I really do hope I'm forced to make a grumbling apology but right now I just do not understand the signing of Marcus Bent.

Thankfully, he has come in as a squad player, back up for the likes Kevin Doyle, Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and it's only a loan spell and he'll be gone by the second week of January, but why?

'Marcus is an experienced striker who has played plenty of Premier League football and scored goals,' said Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey to the Sunday Mercury.

'People still talk about whether we've got enough Premier League experience, and Marcus will add to that.

OK experience yes and I'd be a bit of a hypocrite after moaning that we needed more of it for the past 15 months if I didn't accept that. But goals??

He didn't score a single one last year during loan spells with Middlesbrough or QPR. 10 games in the Championship with no return.

The season before that only brought 3 goals in 30 odd Championship appearances for Birmingham and his last Premier League goal came in 2007 for Wigan!!

Jez continued: 'He's also a different type of striker to what we have in that he's a physical presence.

'We needed someone after the departure of Andy Keogh and Marcus can do a job for us.'

So why let Andy Keogh go out on loan at all??

Keogh is better.

if we needed a physical presence to make up squad numbers we should have kept iwelumo or maierhofer.. they're both better than marcus bent. don't understand this signing at all.. think mick should have been trying for a right-winger or central-midfielder before the deadline really because of kightly being injured and i dont think we're very strong in the middle of the park!!!

Selling Looms (despite what mick says) was part of the Fletcher deal - they had to get a striker to replace the departing Fletch, and we had a very good replacement. Therefore we had no choice in the matter. But loaning Keogh out to Loan Bent makes no sense and is surely an oversight by mick. cant imagine keogh was on more than bent so on bouth counts a mistake a mistake a mistake. That said, Keogh may have forced micks hand and requested first team experience... who knows. All I do know, lets hope we dont need to use him as that would mean SEB, Kev and Fletch have all avoided injury. COME ON YOU WOLVES !

We finished 4th by playing him up front on his own a few years back, he's not a bad player.

Well if we had a top notch striker come in that would mean not having 2 of doyle fletcher or blake up front , Its just a squad number thats all , Personally id have preferred Sam Winnalll , If your good enough your old enough , Iwelumo as AD MANT says was part of the Fletcher deal , Anyone can see that , Hoff and Keogh are bloody awful if you class them as strikers , Right side ?? , You have Hunt who can play either wing , Jarvis can play either wing , Edwards can play either wing , Foley can play right wing , Ward and van damme can play left wing , Guiederola can play anywhere across the middle , Midfield is fine !!!!

He cost us less than £500,000 and we sold him for £2.5million, think his best days are behind him though.

Good luck to the lad and hopefully if we do get a lot of injuries,he can come in and do a job for us for a few games if needed.
