We didn't target Barton says Henry

We didn't target Barton says Henry

With no important football going on, people are still discussing Wolves fiery encounter with Newcastle last week.

If it wasn't for the international break, I'm sure the interest in this would have been minimal and probably forgotten about. But with no Premier League football to talk about, the debate over our treatment of Joey Barton has continued.

The stats made for interesting reading following the one all draw.

38 fouls and 12 yellow cards, isn't your normal Premier League encounter and some of the tackles on Newcastle's Joey Barton from our very own Karl Henry were scrutinised after the match.

'I can`t believe the fuss about it. It`s been blown out of all proportion and it`s just because it was Joey Barton - if it was anyone else it probably wouldn`t even have been mentioned," Henry told the Sunday Sun this week.

Newcastle and Barton believe we deliberately targeted him for some rough treatment, something Henry has rubbished: 'Did we target Joey Barton or sit down before the game and say lets get him? No, we didn`t. It`s absolute rubbish to say that.'

Henry now fully expects an interesting return match up at Newcastle and believes he could be in for a warm welcome from the Newcastle supporters: "I`m looking forward to the return game at St James` Park. Getting booed or anything like that won`t bother me, to be honest,"

"Having 50,000 or so people booing me isn`t really a concern, I`ll just play my game and do my job.'

That stupid tash he was sporting a week or so back was enough reason to target him.

Karl was fantastic!! In my humble opinion the most underated Wolves player. If you'd like to see what happens when you don't compete against a physical team like Newcastle then look no further than the previous week against Villa. Villa were outmuscled and consequently outplayed by a decent Newcastle team. I for one thought we'd struggle against them for precisely that reason. Mick knew this. Karl knew this. And now Newcastle/Barton are bitching because they didn't expect us to play (and beat) them at their own game. Much respect Karl. Heart on sleeve every week - UTW!!!

its that sort of steel in midfield that england have been lacking since the days of paul ince. Ask anyone in the game if they would prefer a guy like henry in the england squad or joey barton who has been close on occasions, think you will find henry wins the poularity contest now barton has been shown up for the whining little toe rag he really is. I agree with henry when he said he saw a lot of barton pushing people around off the ball, i saw it to. So henry just gave it back to him in the fairest way he could in every 50 -50 he had with joey barton. Notice alan smith congratulated karl on a "good battle" at the final whistle. Not moaning like a little girl. What does that tell you? Barton doesnt mind dishing it out, but just cant take it. Roll on away fixture, just hope barton doesnt do something silly if he gets chance.

Yep Karl did a good job,I think if he keeps up the standard he could be looking at an England spot as a holding midfielder.
