Back Bent

Back Bent

Unsurprisingly Mick McCarthy has backed Marcus Bent to prove the doubters wrong.

Hardly surprising news, he'd be in serious trouble if his new manager didn't believe in him!

I've already stated that I really do hope I'm forced to make a grumbling apology about this signing!

When it was announced I just could not understand why we had signed him.

Why let Andy Keogh go out on loan and replace him with a 32-year-old who didn't score a single goal last year during loan spells with Middlesbrough or QPR. (10 games in the Championship with no return.)

The season before that only brought 3 goals in 30 odd Championship appearances for Birmingham and his last Premier League goal came in 2007 for Wigan!!

Yes he brings experience and yes, he is coming in as a squad player, back up for the likes Kevin Doyle, Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and it's only a loan spell and he'll be gone by the second week of January, so what's the point?

'whenever he's played against any of my teams he's been a real handful.' Mick told the Wolves Official Website.

'He caused us problems by his presence and all the qualities that he has are the things defenders don't like playing against.

'He's quick, good in the air, he backs into people and he's got a goal in him.'

I remain to be convinced, but there is also a reason why I'm only writing about football and not managing it and I'll keep faith with McCarthy on this one!

If it doesn't work out, nothing is really lost.

I doubt he'll even start a game, if he does we're in serious strife!

I too think this loan signing is a total waste of time.
