Wolves midfielder David Edwards as signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2013.
The deal brings Edwards' pay up to Premiership standards as was promised to him when the club were still in The Championship.
Big Chief Jex Moxey told The Express & Star "It`s actually based on a commitment made to him prior to the Premier League season when he was told if he proved himself in the top division, we`d be happy to talk."
Edwards' rise through the footballing ranks is enough to inspire any kid than with enough work dreams can be realized.
Just three years ago, Edwards was playing the last of 119 games for his first club, Shrewsbury Town. He had been at the club since a youth, and left for Luton Town, having scored 12 goals for The Shrews. The fee went to tribunal due to his age, with figures ranging between 150,000-250,000.
Edwards was not at Luton for long however, as the club ran into serious financial difficulties, which included a ten point deduction, Wolves stole in ahead of Nottingham Forest and snapped up Edwards for 675,000.
Edwards scored 4 goals in 19 games for Luton, and marked his Wolves debut with a goal against Scunthorpe. Edwards shone in Wolves promotion winning season and was a regular at the start of Wolves return to The Premiership before suffering a fairly serious knee injury.
Edwards, 24, epitomizes the blue print set out by the club under the guidance of the three M's as spoken about by Edwards who said "Wolves are a good club for keeping the squad together and offering deals to players working as hard as they can. We`ve been in talks for quite a while and it`s a great confidence booster to feel wanted. Hopefully I can repay that."
No more big time Charlie's put out to graze on a last big pay check. Hit the lower leagues, dig out the gems, and bring them in young and hungry.
The development of the players who have been brought in from the lower divisions has been miraculous.
Edwards has already made 74 appearances in The Old Gold, and has represented his country (Wales), 20 times.
The deal comes just about a week after Wolves secured Matt Jarvis on a similar contract.
