Villa's vicious tackle

Wolves chairman Steve Morgan has branded the tackle that broke Adlene Guedioura's leg by Aston Villa's Steve Sidwell as vicious.

Morgan decided to hit back at the media, following their unfair portrayal of Wolves in recent weeks.

While we are branded as 'dirty` and a 'disgrace to the Premier League' receiving a £75,000 fine in the process, Sidwell's tackle apparently wasn't even shown on BBC's Match Of The Day programme, the same TV show that gave our supposed ill treatment of Joey Barton so much coverage.

"Anyone who has watched Wolves over the years and any Mick McCarthy team knows we are competitive but we`re not a dirty team at all and it hurts me to see us labelled as one," said Morgan to the Express & Star.

He continued: "One of our lads had his leg broken on Sunday in what I thought was a vicious tackle and absolutely nothing has been said about it in the press.

"When the same thing happened at Fulham for what was a perfectly fair tackle by Karl Henry, he won the ball and yet Karl was absolutely pilloried for it.

"It`s really unfair the way we`ve been singled out."

Vital Wolves Comment; While I agree with Morgan on the vast majority of his points, I will have to argue against branding Sidwell's tackle as 'vicious'.

For me, it was more reckless than vicious, but then I wasn't on the receiving end!

He went for the ball and mistimed it, big deal that's football. We proved last weekend we would not be outbattled and Reo Coker the edge over Henry in the physical battle. Was a great game by the way - I really think Wolves will stay up this year.

I have to agree with the Vital Wolves comment and your manager Mick Mc's comments in the media, a poor tackle but certainly not vicious, wish your chap a speedy recovery and good luck for the rest of the season.

Wolves are known for being over Physical hence why GH said Villa would not be pushed around, hence why we made nearly twice the number of fouls which is not normally Villa, we shown we wasn't going to get bullied like previous games, Sidwell's tackle was mistimed and has came out and said sorry and hopes he will get well soon.
Villa 4 Ever
Whilst it is all about opinions - there are a few pointers to look at has to whether it was meant or not! After tackling Adlene, Sidwell had a glance, shrugged his shoulders and walked to his team mates standing in the penalty area - with a look has much to say - "that' sorted him out", unlike Henry at Fulham he never walked over to Adlene and asked how he was either when he was lying on the floor or on the stretcher, why did he not make a personel phone call asking how he was and make his apology - why did he have to do it through the press? maybe Mick & Jez are saying it wan't meant because he is "one" of the players they are looking at?

never expected anything less of the vile fans - villa 4 ever you are talking out your rear end? Wolves are known for being over physical! been watching telly again, believe everything you hear? on sunday your lot made we look like little lambs - there again you have had, like others enough time in this league to perfect cheating and dirty play! We came out to play - your players under orders from GH came out to kick us off the park after watching MOTD/reading the press and just like you believing what they have read and heard! any team can look after themselves if, if the other team start it - we did not! Adlene was looking dangerous - he had to be stopped - enter Sidwell!
johnwolf
The tackle was tough (it was a derby game) - however Sidwell evidently didnt go out to hurt the lad, just to let him know of his presence. Sidwell (of any Villa player) is certainly not someone who'd risk being sent off with his current career dilemna.

JohnWolf - are you bitter u lost by any chance? Take of your amber tinter glasses for a second and hang your Wolves Shirt back in the wardrobe.

In my opinion Guedioura was lucky not to be booked for taking such an obvious dive, how he got away with it I'll never know. If justice is to be done he needs to be retrospectively red carded and should probably be paying to have his blood washed out of Sidwells clothes

What the ***** are you on about 2fishinatank?? I also picked up on Sidwell's lack of humility after the tackle, just wondered off and showed no remorse what so ever. I found that part of the incident vile.
Wolf Man
Come on, Dingles. Was it really vicious? Mistimed... yes. Rash... most certainly. Pre-meditated to cause maximum possible injury... absolutely not. It happens in football and we've been on the end of some horrible injuries ala Luc Nilis, Wilf Bouma and young Delph last season. I hope the lad doesn't take too long to come back and I hope your lot have a good season. UTV.

You Wolves fans are an optimistic bunch - 46% predict bottom 3. What a great set of supporters.

Bit crass Bob The Builder getting involved, suppose thats what you get from a Liverpool supporter.... The referee dealt with it, if a manager was to bitch as much he would be on a disripute charge, why not the chairman?

I've a feeling Sidwell did not think the lad had been injured that badly TBH. How many tough football stars do we see these days rolling around in apparent agony looking like their legs will fall off, only to sprint back on to the pitch after they have wasted a few playable minutes with their equity license skills.
Charizma
Sorry about your player but its a bit contridicting when mccarthy comes out saying your team arn't malicious after kicking lumps into barton and other players, but as soon as someone does a mistimed challenge then all of a sudden it's not acceptable to tackle like that? The tackles karl henry gave on barton were just as bad just unfortunate your player broke his leg in the challenge...Didnt a challenge from a wolves player brake zamora's leg? It was an acident, i dont have a problem with you playing rough but when a team gives it back its a different story...All i hear is excuses from sunday from wolves fans i no, it was a poor challenge get over it.
P.Avfc
I would imagine that poll has been somewhat swayed by visiting supporters.
akela
No problems with the way villa playedand the tackle was just mistimed as happens in every game.
Crete Wolf
No of course Wolves aren't a dirty team, Barton deserved everything he got blah, blah! Henry's tackle (in the loosest term of the word) today was nothing short of disgraceful. He should be banned for at least ten games for that. Lucky he didn't break the fellas neck, never mind his legs. Henry is an utter disgrace!
