Wolves Halford Staying On At Pompey

Greg Halford has had his Pompey loan extended after making five starts for the club since joining in October.

Despite being named as one of the players available for transfer in the summer, Halford enjoyed involvement in the Wolves side at the start of the season but fell out of favor and headed out on loan.

The Championship club would probably have to sell a few more pieces of furniture to raise funds for a permanent which, but with that unlikely he is at least in the shop window and perhaps another club will come in for him in January.

At 25, Pompey is the players 8th club.

Thanks for the invite Wolfie! I'm glad Halford has got the extra month, no verdict returned yet, partly because he has been played or pushed out of position recently because of pompey's dire play, partly because he clearly likes to get forward and on occasion gets caught out of position. He figured strongly in our ultimately unsuccessful fight back against Donny and his performance was generally well received. He always stays behind to applaud the fans, this goes down well with the blue army and it was noticed he got a good response from the faithful on Saturday. On balance I think in a defence lead by either the Herminator or Rocha he will do well and will probably keep his first start place.

I am pleased that Halford is getting games in and is doing well. He worked hard over the summer, sorted himself out and made the club 25. He probably expected to get more match-time than he actually achieved but that was probably a forelorn hope. He has all the physical attributes of a Premier League player but lacks the requisite pace and guile. If only we could graft his throw onto Milijas or Henry. I wish him well, if not at Pompey then at another Championship side.

Thanks for getting back to us with the feedback Russell. Sounds like he has been doing okay for you and the fans have taken something of a slight shine to him. As Banksy says, he did pull himself together over the summer and he earned his chance in the side but a Premiership player he is not. I was actually surprised how much game time he got with us to be honest but fair play to Mick he gave him his chance. I am not sure what the financial situation is now at Pompey but without any resentment I would be happy to see the player shipped out in January- his fee was undisclosed when we signed him so I imagine we will never know if we get our money back on him. The blokes got some good attributes but I just don't see a future for him with us. All the best to him though.
