Time Up For McCarthy?

Has the time come for Mick McCarthy?

The old clichés of taking us as far as he can are being wheeled out in the obvious disappointment of losing an away game.

OK so it was Blackpool and we should have expected to come back with the three points, just the same as Everton and the Baggies would have done as well.

But that's football, we'll pick up points unexpectedly like we did against Manchester City and we'll drop points unexpectedly like we did yesterday at Blackpool.

With us drifting at the bottom with a small gap opening up, obviously frustration grows, but is it time for McCarthy to go?

Why not get in touch and let us know how you feel? You can either let us know on the message board or send us your views in the form of an article or even contact us via email.

Whatever your view, let us know and as long as it's suitable we'll publish it!

Personally I stood by him this time last season and he pulled it around and I have no reason to doubt his ability to do the same this season.

This can be answered pretty swiftly. Is O'Neill willing to entertain the idea joining us ? If so, Mccarthy must go. If not, well here's the beef: Yesterday's game revealed our other major shortcoming - the inability to put the ball in the back of the net. We have been so preoccupied with how catastrophically bad we are at the back that we forget that nobody has more than 2 goals to their name (maybe 3 - i cant be arsed to check) Mick has spent record amounts on Fletcher, Moyokolo, van Damme and Zubar only for the lot of them to sit on the bench. Thats quite an expensive bench. Especially by our humble standards All of this raises questions like, If he thinks - as his team selection alludes - Ward Craddock Berra and Stears are up to premiership standards why would he buy all those defenders. Why spend 7 mil on Fletcher when we dont have the squad behind to make use of him. Why persist with players who are clearly not up to this level, and why do you insist on regularly playing players out of their natural positions, a la Ward, Edwards, Mancienne... Mccarthy should take a bit of his own advice to Cappello and be man... Tell the Wolves faithful that you are aware we are up ***** creek, that he has plans to change our approach, and bring in one or two players in Jan... instead of bobbing around like a character from Klopper Castle mumbling something about good performance and bad result...week in week out Stand up and be counted Mick - our stadium plans and ability to hold on to our star players depends on us remaining in the prem. you may or may not not care about OUR future, but us fans bloody well do. Tick Tock Mick.

Do we need another 'McCarthy out' Thread? There are already 2 other threads on this topic!

McCarthy has failed. It is time for him to go now. With another manager in place we have a chance of survival; with McCarthy we will definitely go down, and probably in humiliating fashion too!

who will manage wolves? thats the question. you all loved him when he got you up

Do we need a manager - surely a rotating dartboard with players names on is how he currently picks the squad... Any monkey can do that. I vote Monkey !@

I'll pay the taxi fare myself.

Maybe Phil Brown could take over if Mick does one. He has the grit and experience of bringing out a survivor team. Just look at it this way though the league is tight this time around 3 wins in a row and your possibly comfortable mid table I d say give him a bit longer at least till Febuary.

I was hoping my article would even the balance as it was more of a McCarthy in article!

I never rated McCarthy as a manager, the fact is, if Wolves want to get any further as a club they need someone with a bit more tactical knowledge. Sometimes just lumping the ball up the pitch just isn't enough! We have spent millions on players who have just sat on the bench and if and when they do come on the pitch its at a point in the game when they will make no real impact. Wolves have some very skilful players who are good when the ball is on the ground. I think we need a manager that will promote either playing the ball on the ground in a good tactical manner (O'neill) or to utilize the skills our players possess (Zola). If we ever want to move up the table and compete we need to make a change, and bite the bullet to spend a little money for some quality. Us fans deserve that! Otherwise we are destined to go back to the Championship and have to rebuild all over again!

The problem is in many ways a paradox! If we do get relegated then Mick would be the best manager to get us promoted!! However if we look like staying up - he should be replaced as the Premiership has always looked a step too far!! I would go with Admant - if we can land Martin O`Neill then he would be a far better prospect of taking us further....

It's also a matter of timing, any new manager needs time to get his feet under the table, put his own stamp on things, get his own men around him and his own signings into the club. December/January is not the time to be doing that in our position as we need an immediate turn around and McCarthy is just as capable of that as anyone else coming in.
akela
You are probably right - it depends on who we got in of course. On balance Mick deserves the chance to finish the job this season.
