Kightly ready for second op

Michael Kightly will be heading for Sweden in 10 days time to have a second operation on his knee.

The 24-year-old last played over a year ago when he played half an hour against Birmingham in November 2009.

Since then it has been set back after set back until his most recent operation was deemed a success and even Mick McCarthy is considering naming him in his 25-man squad in January.

"I think it`s something like six weeks since he had the first operation on his one knee,"

'I might be able to name him in my 25-man squad come the end of January, I`ve no idea. It would be lovely boost to have him back.' McCarthy told the Express & Star.

Now Kights is looking ahead to having another operation on his other knee to relieve inflammation of his patella tendons.

Mick continued: "The knee he`s had done is great so he`s having the other one done. He`s having it done on December 12. And if it feels as good as this one then that would be great."

Vital Wolves Comment: We continue to keep everything crossed for Kights!

Would be a massive boost to have a fit Kightly in January, though If he is fit I would expect a loan deal to get match fit with him returning to Wolves in Feb raring to go.

I hope he makes it back, realistically though I cant see him playing this season in the premiership,to start with no matter what Merlin says he cant afford to risk him in the 25,we are going to need all the bodies we can get, to get us hopefully out of the relegation places.I think the remainder of the season will be spent in the championship getting back to full fitness and that in itself will be a great achievment both for him and the club.

I agree Crete, I can't see him cutting the Premiership even if this operation does go well. Apparently he had the same done on his other knee, and this rings too many familiars thinking back to Murray Mint- a travesty that and we can only hope this building catalog of injuries will not mean the same. The growing list of injuries at his age is a true concern. Tremendous talent. Hope he makes it.
