More than just three points at stake

Our Mick understands what's truly at stake on Sunday against Birmingham.

After flirting with bottom spot in the Premier League last weekend, points in every game are critical if we are to avoid the slippery slope down to the Championship.

But this weekend something arguably more important is at stake; local pride.

"It`s a bit more than three points now isn`t it?" McCarthy told the Express & Star.

He added: "I`d settle for three points out of any game at the moment, but because of local pride and bragging rights, we need to get the points at home."

Vital Wolves Comment: This is going to be tough, Birmingham are fine team under the direction of Alex McLeish and I have to admit I'm pretty pessimistic going into Sunday.

Thankfully the more important game for local pride comes next week and I'm far more optimistic ahead of that one!

Well I am writing this early on sunday morning,I fear this couple of weeks is going to define whether we are a premier league club next year.Wigan drawing yesterday means that we have to win just to stay in touch,we wont move up any positions but we will at least be in range of the others IF we win.The other promoted clubs, after 2 won yesterday are now 10 points clear,we simply have to win I think, at least 3 in a row before we play Liverpool away on 29thDec,which is within our capabilities against the teams involved.Following that game at Anfied we have another away game 2 days later against West Ham.Just the way the fixture list has worked out it has given us the chance to claw our way back before the turn of the year.Forget the injuries, forget the form, forget players playing out of position this is it,no question,we have reached our point of no return. We must and can win, pick strikers to play upfront, midfielders in midfield and I'll settle for anyone at the back at this moment in time,if they score 3 we have to get 4 simple as that.Certain things happen during a season and we need a defining moment badly,a Doyle or Fletcher hat trick?maybe Seb doing it?Hunt and Jarvis playing blinders down the flanks,it does'nt have to be today a scrappy 1-0 will do, scoring in the last minute of time added on,I dont care as long as we win!.But it has to happen soon?I hope we go to Upton Park on New years day out of the bottom 3 looking to consolidate the rest of our season with hopefully a couple of new faces to give us an extra boost, not hopelessly detached from the rest of the league and struggling to persuade players to join us.Onwards and upwards we hope!!Up the Wolves!!!.
