Wolves remain optimistic

Wolves chiefs remain optimistic that the Boxing Day match against Wigan will go ahead as scheduled.

Temperatures mights still be barmy, but with no more snow forecast for the next few days, the undersoil heating at Molineux and hard work from Wolves staff should mean the game will go ahead.

"We remain optimistic of the game going ahead.' Wolves Secretary Richard Skirrow told the Express & Star.

He added: "The undersoil heating has been switched on for about three weeks - it`s controlled via a thermostat and automatically kicks in as required - and it`s working well.

'forecast suggests we`ve seen the last of the snow before the Wigan game so that should cease to be a problem, although the temperatures on Christmas night are expected to be very cold - down to minus 7 degrees C or possibly double figures.

"The pitch should still cope with that and, providing there`s no more snow, we can make the pitch and the surrounding areas safe."

Vital Wolves Comment: I read or heard once that the undersoil heating keeps the pitch temperature at an almost tropical 13c.

That means the difference between the air temperature and pitch temperature on Christmas Day could be as high as 21c!

I hope it's on as I do not want us to lose the momentum of a derby victory. If previous postponements are any guide, the surrounding streets need to have underground heating too. Walking up the path past the Billy Wright stand on the day that Birmingham played at Molineux, I found myself sliding about quite dangerously.

That sliding 'around' was probably too much Bank's bitter.!!!
