No change on David Jones situation

David Jones's Wolves contract at Molineux expires at the end of the season.

He was offered a new deal to remain with Wolves a few months back, negotiations stalled and that situation hasn't changed.

"The club offered him a contract, he declined the contract and it`s not going to be improved. That`s where we`re at.' McCarthy told the Express & Star.

Reports suggest that Newcastle, Bolton and Blackburn are all monitoring the situation, but while Jones now has less than six months remaining on his contract, it is only non-English clubs that he is allowed to talk to without permission from Wolves.

But of course if he waits till the end of the season he will be free to discuss terms with whoever he wishes and walk away from Molineux for free.

McCarthy continued: "I`d have thought it was his prerogative to see his deal out and see what`s out there. Who`s to say he doesn`t sign for us next year? And why should we get all uptight about that?

"He`s looking to hopefully improve the terms of his deal by playing well, or he`ll go somewhere else, but the only way he can do it is by playing well."

Vital Wolves Comment: It's the way football has been going for a number of years and while we are frustrated it's just a sign of the times.

The players hold the power these days and if David Jones wants to play poker with his future then that's down to him.

Even though we desperately need players of his talent, if he doesnt want to pledge his support he must feck off. That said, it could be the same old story if Fat Jez not wanting to share his pies.

I think we should sell him now and make some money on him. So, keep quiet that he's not as good as he thinks he is and use the income to buy a quality left back.

Problem is we cannot dictate to a player when to leave, if he is hell bent on leaving for nothing he simply will not agree personal terms with a new club during this transfer window.

Would he earn a percentage of the transfer fee if he left now?
