Wolves in talks over Griffiths

Wolves have been heavily linked with moves for Barnsley winger Adam Hammill and Dundee striker Leigh Griffiths.

Wolves appear to be one of the more active clubs in the Premier League during this window, although so far have failed to bring in any new faces.

Probably keen to avoid another Steve Sidwell embarrassment, the club had moved to play down the latest rumours referring to the latest links as "pure speculation" yesterday.

But today, Wolves could be more confident, with Wolves CEO Jez Moxey confirming the link to Leigh Griffiths.

"We are looking at new recruitment in this January window, We are in discussions with the Dundee administrators over the possible signing of Leigh Griffiths." Jez told Wolves Official Website.

Vital Wolves Comment: Just to prevent any confusion, the picture is of Barnsley winger Adam Hammill!

What's the odds on another team coming along and poaching him: at £150,000 he seems to be a bargain. But what's with all this buying for the future if it's thundery purple? We need quality players who can help the club now ... and in positions where we need help!

Well, several of the names we have heard over the past few weeks, and the club have admitted they are in for this one, don't appear to be anyone they are thinking of using for the remainder of the season. I do like the fact we are looking at these quality young players, it matches the blue print we built our initial success around- let's just hope that we are spending just as much time negotiating with clubs and proven players with regards trying to stay in this division. From my understanding, even if we do sign this player, he remains where he is until the end of the season.

On the other hand, it might suggest that, as we are going down, we should be preparing for life in the Championship. For that league, good young players are worth buying. We could also give our Academy graduates a taste of first team action. It's almost worth doing!

Mick has always looked to bring in players with an eye to the future, its a good tactic as you can pick up a gem or two, if it doesn't work out you let them go and nothing is lost.

I imagine they will assess him over the summer, ship him out on loan for at least a year and hopefully reap the rewards when they bring him in- clearly one for the future and glad to see the club are still bringing in the young quality. Vokes' was on the bench out of necessity yesterday but it makes you wonder if they have long term plans for him. I think he's quality- remember when we first signed him he was scoring and went and did the same for Wales.

NYCW: do you remember his miss against Manchester United last year?
