Hammill getting to know the squad

Hammill getting to know the squad

Our latest new signing might have the week off due to being cup-tied in the FA Cup, but Adam Hammill has still been working hard.

Wolves fans got a brief look at our new 23-year-old £500,000 signing against Liverpool, but is unavailable for the FA Cup game against Stoke on Sunday.

"I`m cup-tied this weekend so it`s a good time for me to gel in with the lads so they can get to know my game a lot more," he said to Wolves Official Website.

Hammill added: "It will give me time before the next Premier League game to mix in with the team. I`m doing core sessions and weight sessions to get myself ready for the Premier League.'

Hammill has come to Molineux from Barnsley and before the game against Liverpool he had never featured in a Premier League match before.

So that step up will take time and the new lad understands he will have to wait: "I don`t expect to walk straight into the team, I expect to work hard and battle. The manager is fair and he`ll give me the right opportunities.

"But I look at the two wingers ahead of me and they`ve got qualities I haven`t got and I want to learn from them so I can put those into my game."

Vital Wolves Comment: I liked the fact that Mick threw him straight into the mixer last week.

OK so it was only for 15 minutes or so, when the game was pretty much done and dusted, but it got the burden of making his debut out of the way.

With the FA Cup this week, it could have been a long wait for the lad, so to get it out of the way so he can concentrate on what he needs to do was good management by McCarthy.

It's a pity Hammill cannot play in the FAC today as it would have provided the perfect opportunity to assess his capabilities. I reckon he is going to be an asset, especially if he continues to deliver balls into the box of equivalent quality to the ones he hit against Liverpool.
